Course Content

The content of the course is: (1) Implementation of human rights at the national level (incorporation of the rules into the domestic legal order, state obligation of investigation, obligation of reparation, obligation of prevention, (2) implementation of human rights at the international level (decentralized implementation of protection rules, centrally coordinated implementation of protection rules, types of international protection bodies, types of international protection procedures, the procedures of the UN Charter) and (3) the special protection of human rights in the European Union.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able:

  • to comprehend the different regimes of human rights protection in the international legal order
  • to understand how the international and national protection of human rights interact,
  • to come across the basic principles regarding state obligations regarding human rights protection, such as the obligation to investigate, repair, and prevention,
  • how human rights are implemented by states,
  • to fully come along the regional and international systems of human rights protection
  • to critically analyze the value of human rights bodies and committees.
